Modern cosmetic medicine offers patients many noninvasive techniques for improving their appearance. Injectable products fall into two broad categories, dermal fillers, and injectables.
Dermal fillers help to fill in deep wrinkles, rejuvenate and help improve the facial structure, including the cheeks.
Types of Dermal Fillers
At Cilento Facial Plastics we offer the following dermal fillers:
What are the benefits of dermal fillers?
There are several reasons why dermal fillers are so popular across all age groups. Patients visit us to see how dermal fillers can correct signs of aging like creases around the nose and mouth or to address concerns like naturally-thin lips. The versatility of filler products is one of the benefits that can be appreciated regardless of your reason for seeking treatment.
Additional benefits of dermal fillers include:
- Quick, minimally-invasive treatment is virtually painless.
- Some fillers contain a mild anesthetic that desensitizes the skin during treatment.
- Results from dermal filler treatment are immediate.
- Instantaneous “filling” enables us to achieve subtle, natural-looking results.
- Filler substances get absorbed over time. Results can last up to two years.
- Normal activities can be resumed right away
What are the side effects of dermal fillers?
There are very few side effects with dermal fillers and the most frequently reported are only temporary. Patients may notice minor swelling in the injection areas soon after their treatment. The injection sites may also look red or may produce pinpoint bleeding. Some patients may bruise. All side effects can be covered with makeup if desired and all should disappear within 12 to 24 hours, usually much sooner.
Restylane is an injectable filler that consists of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the human body. Hyaluronic acid is an ideal substance for long-lasting cosmetic filler, as it is able to retain water to maintain its form longer than most other injectables.
Restylane Treatment Areas
Restylane is used frequently for procedures to fill in moderate wrinkling, such as those that appear in the nasolabial fold, extending from the sides of the nose to the sides of the mouth. We often use Restylane for lip enhancement as well.
Effects of Restylane injections can last up to six months or longer. The patient can also repeat the injections as the effects wear off.
Generally speaking, as we age we tend to lose the fat in our faces. Those fat pads also give us a more youthful appearance and the loss of facial volume leads to a hollow look in the cheek area. In the past, permanent silicone cheeks implants were a solution to this problem. Unfortunately, these proved to be problematic. The implants tended to shift over time, or worse, they appeared as apples in shape as the patient’s skin and facial fat changed with age. Another solution was fat injections. However, fat had to be harvested from other parts of the body requiring extensive surgery.
Uses For Radiesse
Radiesse is hydroxyapatite and has been used for years as a wrinkle filler. Now, however, with advanced injection techniques, we are able to augment the cheek area and the chin area with long-lasting Radiesse.
Radiesse Treatment Overview
The treatment for Radiesse injections takes about 30 minutes. We perform this in an outpatient setting and the results are instantaneous. A dental block is used to minimize discomfort. One or two syringes are used in each cheek depending on the patient. Some bruising can occur but it is transient.
Juvederm is used to smooth away wrinkles around your mouth and nose. With just one treatment, you’ll get smooth and natural-looking results that lasts from 9 to 16 months depending on the location of injection.
Uses of Juvederm
It’s important to realize that everyone’s skin ages differently and JUVÉDERM® XC may be used to rejuvenate multiple problem areas.* From smile lines to vertical lip lines, you can smooth away undesirable wrinkles and restore natural contours.
At Cilento Facial Plastics we offer the following injectables:
Botox is an FDA approved injectable which helps to relax the muscles in your forehead by smoothing furrows and creating a more youthful, and pleasant appearance.
Uses of Botox
- Moderate to severe lines around the eyes
- Moderate to severe lines in the forehead
- Lines on the face in between the eyebrows
- Wrinkles in the face
Dysport is an injectable that helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in the forehead. It has the advantage of being able to diffuse over 300 percent further into the skin. Therefore, fewer injection points are necessary.
How can fillers be used in combination with a rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a complex procedure that requires attention to the tiniest details. Sometimes, symmetry is not ideal after the nose heals. Rather than undergo a revision rhinoplasty, more patients are choosing to correct symmetry or minor size issues with dermal fillers. The gel-like consistency of filler produces is ideal for restoring shape and contours after rhinoplasty, if necessary.
What is a nonsurgical rhinoplasty?
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty treatment has become increasingly popular in recent years. This minimally-invasive technique may be performed around the bridge of the nose to create the illusion of straightness or to disguise a bump. Though fillers can be injected into the soft tissue at the tip or nostril area, this technique should only be conducted by an experienced provider who is familiar with the vascularity of this part of the face. Essentially, nonsurgical rhinoplasty can achieve many of the same improvements as surgical techniques but the results do not last as long.
How can fillers be used for full facial rejuvenation?
Experienced providers use fillers to address nearly every area of the face. For full-face rejuvenation we may place fillers in areas such as the:
- Temples, to restore width in the upper part of the face
- Undereye tissue, called the tear trough, to reduce puffiness or dark circles
- Cheeks, to restore fullness that has diminished or enhance mid-face contours
- Lines and creases around the nose, mouth, and chin, to restore a youthful smoothness
- Lips, to correct a downward turn and restore volume that has thinned with age
- Chin or jawline, to recreate a youthful angular curve
How can fillers be used in combination with a facelift?
Facelift surgery is an advantageous procedure because it manually repositions the skin for a more dramatic outcome. However, tissue repositioning and skin trimming may not completely correct concerns such as volume loss in the mid-face. Dermal fillers are complementary to facelift surgery because they can fill in fine lines and creases not smoothed by a facelift. Injections can enhance the curve of the cheeks, and also fill in the lips and fine lip lines for more nuanced improvements after a facelift.
What is a nonsurgical facelift?
Nonsurgical facelift treatment achieves nearly instantaneous results in much less time than a surgical facelift. The process typically involves various injectables, including neuromodulators like Botox and one or more dermal filler. Each treatment is customized to address specific areas of the face that are contributing to an aged appearance. As an example, a nonsurgical facelift may include injections of Botox in the upper face to reduce frown lines and gently lift the eyebrows. Dermal fillers are then used in the lower two-thirds of the face, filling in lines and plumping contours along the cheeks, lips, and jawline.
What is a nonsurgical chin augmentation?
Chin augmentation is a beneficial procedure due to its immediate results and absence of downtime. This quick procedure introduces a firm, structural dermal filler into the chin and surrounding jawline to increase projection and angles. The nonsurgical chin augmentation process strengthens the chin and jawline without incisions or anesthesia. Results can last 12 to 24 months and treatment can be safely repeated as necessary to maintain the desired chin shape.
How can Voluma augment the cheeks?
Voluma is one of the most popular fillers for cheek augmentation due to its structural density. To enhance the volume and contours of the cheekbones, Voluma is injected into the appropriate area based on a pre-treatment evaluation. Some people benefit from volume enhancement in the apples of the cheeks while others receive Voluma along the ridge of the cheeks to increase both volume and height. Like other hyaluronic acid fillers, Voluma works by tethering water molecules with hyaluronic acid particles in the dermis. The increase of water content in the tissue volumizes and contours the skin.
